Lougheed House

Lougheed house is in downtown Calgary and is a mansion, which is now a historic site. Owned by a senator and his family, this grand mansion is on 2.8 acres and is surrounded by beautiful gardens.

Chicken on the way, Kensington

Lots of people told us to go here. I could feel my arteries clogging. See those two round balls - corn fritters. I think it is deep fried corn bread. We had to go for a run today, after eating this!

AFL Footy in Calgary

It was quite funny to see the 1 umpire that they had shirtless running around. And wolf-whistling to stop play.

I don't even think they had 18 on the field?

Banff

How bad is it that we hadn't been to banff (a whole 1.5 hours from home) since Christmas? Pretty bad. So we went overnight and spent our time at Bankhead (see previous post), Lake minnewanka (say it like it sounds), two john lake and sulpher mountain.

We were lucky enough even to get up an upgrade at our hotel!

Bankhead

Bankhead is now a ghost town which is just past Banff. We had previously tried to get there at Christmas time, but without a car, it made it difficult. We started walking in the snow thinking we only had to walk 2 kms. We didn't even make it 1km (as it started snowing heavily). We wouldn't have made it, as it was actually 10kms from town. whoops!

Stampede 2009

We went to the Stampede the first Saturday of the stampede. It amazing to see so many people dressed up in cowboy hats/boots. I think their gear comes out only once a year!

That night we ssaw the chuckwagon races (probably 8 in total) and the grandstand show. The grandstand show was a bit of cirque du soleil / comedian /video (as it came down with rain, and unfortunately they couldn't perform the ring of death so we watched a video (ha!) of the previous night's performance).
