Thanksgiving Long Weekend - Johnston Canyon

For thankgiving long weekend, we made it to Johnston Canyon. This is the last weekend that the cabins at Johnston Canyon are open. And now we know why. The pipes had frozen over and we had no water for our showers the next morning! Eeek.... so we were told to leave the hot water running overnight to ensure the pipes don't freeze over again.
So we decided to go to the Banff Hot Springs (our first time!) - the water temp is about 38 degrees. It was toasty. But I would have to jump out every so often as it was so hot!

Boston Pizza

Yes, that is a pizza with sour cream and guacamole. We ventured here after looking at apartments one weekend - walked all around the city!

Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World

We finally got to CrossIron Mills Mall ( a new shopping outlet just out of calgary http://www.crossironmills.com/ ) The place has a HUGE Bass Pro shop - words and photos do not do it justice. There is a fake lake with trout and there is a shooting range where you can shoot for a quarter. This is place is insane - it sells things you just dont find in oz like crossbows and guns. Crazy.

Earls

We spend too much. Plain and simple. So we rack up $50 vouchers very easily. So we got a voucher to Earls and decided to visit! Yummy steak for Shan and Ribs and Chicken for Anne. Suave Shannon - very suave.

Our first stop through the icefield parkway was the Athabasca Glacier (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athabasca_Glacier). Walking on a glacier - awesome! There is a large fleet of snowmobiles - the only other 2 of this kind are in Antartica.

We drank the water - and Shannon's hand were freezing cold for a long time after (rigor mortis hands!). The area we could walk on was quite small, but you are able to do a day hike up the glacier with a tour guide - no falling through the ice for me thankyou!

On the road to Jasper - September long weekend

Jasper is a 5 hour drive (with roadworks grrrr...) from Calgary. The scenery is impressive and the drive is one of the nicest drives in Canada - the pictures look surreal. On the way back through theicefields parkway is snowed in early September. Crazy!
