Our first stop through the icefield parkway was the Athabasca Glacier (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athabasca_Glacier). Walking on a glacier - awesome! There is a large fleet of snowmobiles - the only other 2 of this kind are in Antartica.
We drank the water - and Shannon's hand were freezing cold for a long time after (rigor mortis hands!). The area we could walk on was quite small, but you are able to do a day hike up the glacier with a tour guide - no falling through the ice for me thankyou!
