Arriving in Calgary

Our flight from Adelaide to Calgary was not a short one. We went to Calgary via Sydney, LA and Vancouver - 31 hours later. We hoped for an upgrade - on one leg surely - but to no avail. Surprisingly we were in high spirits when we got to the Calgary Airport (we didn't know that jet lag was to hit a few days later). We got into the airport late at night and was greeted by a White Hat Volunteer - our first taste of Calgary hospitality. As the name aludes to, the lovely elderly lady was wearing a white cowboy hat and helped us find the phone to call our airport hotel to organise a shuttle bus. She had been to Australia previously and was happy to take us under her wing. We only arrived with three suitcases and she did a double take when looking at our luggage and hearing that we had moved here for a couple of years. After all, we only took clothes, wedding dvd, toiletries and a couple of photos.

We left the same day we arrived in Calgary November 26th and the mean temperature was 2 degrees in Calgary. We got to our hotel late in the evening. It was across from Hooters which amused Shannon. We jumped into bed - watched a little bit of cable television and talked about how this was the first night in Calgary we had been imagining in Adelaide for a long time. We talked for ages - excited about the adventure to come - then caught some zzzs once the 31 hours of flying had hit.
